Dear Parents,

As the first week of February begins we have completed our skating program and are now back to a normal week. We again are working on our Words Their Way program, and if you could assist your
students, by reviewing the activities with them, it would be greatly appreciated. We continue with our Daily Language Review, our weekly home reading program, and our math minute booklets. These activities will be sent as homework if not completed in class.

We continue our new unit on Sound, and I appreciate the help given to students to create their Sound Devices.  We will be hopefully using these devices as sound effects in the stories they will be creating.

We continue our exploration of our countries of study in Social. We completed our weather study and created graphs to see how the temperatures varied between countries, and how such differences may affect their ways of life.

Hopefully students who wish to take part in Mrs. Davies Choir Kids, preparing for our chance to sing
with the Red Deer Symphony on Monday, March 17, have filled in their forms and returned them to school.
This weeks healthy challenge is to give a compliment to someone each day as this begins our Random Acts of Kindness week.

At the end of the month we will be having our Scholastic Book Fair.  Our class is scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2014. Further, at the sale, we will have a book swap. Students who wish to trade one or more of their older books will be able to, or for the price of $1.00 buy a book from the Book Swap Table.

Thank
you,
 Mr. Foote

Dear Parents,

It’s a new year and I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas break. This week we start right away with skating on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at 9:45. Don’t forget to send student’s skates and helmets every Tuesday for the month of January.

As the first week begins we are back following the same procedures as from the beginning of the year. We again are working on our Words Their Way program. I have sent home with students this weeks words and a reminder of the Words Their Way activities and some of the games we play. If you could assist your students, by reviewing the activities with them, it would be greatly
appreciated.

We continue with our Daily Language Review activities and our weekly home reading program. Booklets will again be sent home with students. It is expected that students read the booklets, sharing some of the story with parents, complete the comprehension questions, and return the material by the end of the week.

In science we are beginning a new unit on Sound, and we continue our exploration of our countries of study in Social. This week we will look at the weather and compare what is happening there as compare to here in Rocky.

A new segment of choir is beginning. Mrs. Davies will be preparing for our chance to sing
with the Red Deer Symphony on Monday, March 17. Students will need to make a commitment for the entire time as we will be performing with the Red Deer Symphony as part of Choir Kids on March 17.  We will travel to Red Deer for the afternoon and evening and be part of a concert with several other children’s choirs and members of the symphony.  It is a great musical opportunity.  New choir members are welcome so please discuss this with your child and see if they are interested and willing to be committed to the team.

Thank you,
 Mr. Foote
